Mush news:Gaming Behavior
Here on Safe Haven Harbor, we abide by what is known as Wheaton’s Law of Online Gaming. Don’t be a dick. All of us are here for the same purpose: to enjoy this game. This is a game about monsters and dark themes, and there are undoubtedly going to be aggressive and unpleasant PCs on the game - but those are IC. Out of character aggression will not be tolerated and repeated rudeness or disrespectful treatment will result in a player being invited to leave the game.
What does it mean, "Don't be a Dick"?
Would you come into my house and behave the way you are behaving? Would you like me to talk, in the manner of how you are talking to me? Would you talk to your mother or spouse? Would you behave this way in public? -- If you answered no to any of these, then what you are doing right now is being a dick.
For those of you that say yes - would your spouse or mother or significant other apologize profusely for you after your behavior? Is your behavior the reason you don't have a spouse or a magnet on your fridge that says 'call your mother' - because she doesn't want you to? then what you are doing right now is being a dick.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly: You're being a dick if staff says you are. Knock it off!
This game is by-invitation to join and play. That means if you come to this game, just the same as accepting an invitation to come to someone's house, you are expected to be polite and "play nice" in an out of character capacity with other players on this game. We are here to enjoy this opportunity to role-play, to tell stories and enjoy ourselves. By being invited to play on this game by someone who thought you would be a good addition, your behavior also reflects upon the person who invited you.
Beyond dickish behavior we are also not accepting of cheating, metagaming and harassment.
Corrective Measures
Staff recognizes that sometimes a person has a bad day, sometimes the situations happening IC on the game can be stressful and unpleasant and that feelings get hurt. We have come up with a policy for dealing with repeated issues that we feel is fair, while at the same time not tolerating what we have very clearly indicated isn't wanted on this game. In most circumstances corrective measures will follow this order:
- Warning - On the first time something is brought up as a significant issue, headstaff and the player involved will have a conversation and a warning will be issued.
- 1 Week Break - This will be a break from the PC bit through which the issue has arisen. No logging in will be permitted during this time.
- 1 Month Break - This will be a break from the PC bit through which the issue has arisen. No logging in will be permitted during this time.
- 6 Month Break - This will be a break from the game, in any PC bit that exists. No logging in will be permitted during this time.
- Banned From Game - The player is removed from the game and sitebanned. Any outstanding situations with the player's PCs will be resolved by staff discretion.
If the situation warrants, Headstaff may find it necessary to forgo warnings.
